The University of Aveiro (UAVR) was created in 1973 and has as mission to provide and develop graduate and post-graduate education, scientific research, and cooperation with external stakeholders. Associated to UAVR are 4 Polytechnic Schools, including ESTGA. Research is organized in 14 Research Units (RU) and 4 Associated Laboratories, amongst which, since 2005, the Centre for Environmental and Marine Research (CESAM). CESAM stands for an integrated approach to the study of atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and sociosphere.
