Institute full name:

Soil Conservation Service of Iceland

Institute acronym:

SCSI

Institute profile:

SCSI is the oldest land reclamation institute in the world, founded in 1907. It has ever since been combating soil erosion and land degradation both actively and in cooperation with land users, land owners and NGOs. As a governmental institute, SCSI is involved in government policy making.

SCSI maintains the NIRA database, National Inventory on Restored Areas, through its land monitoring program where all SCSI related land reclamation operations active since 1990 are included. SCSI is also actively involved in education, both locally through visits to public schools and also through its participation in the United Universities Land Restoration Training Programme (UNU-LRT).
