RECARE Training on Stakeholder Interaction
held from 15-19 September 2014 in Wageningen/Netherlands

Background of the workshop
The integrated trans-disciplinary approach of the RECARE project aims at initiating a process of co-production of knowledge and joint learning between relevant stakeholders from the local to the (sub-) national level. Thus, in each study site a range of different stakeholders (from land users, civil society organisations, local authorities to industry and government representatives) will actively be engaged in this process.

The training on stakeholder interaction in RECARE will empower project partners to interact with stakeholders relevant to their particular site in order to identify the soil threats and relevant countermeasures to be taken. Methodologies and materials will be introduced that will guide study site moderators to build up a stakeholder platform consisting of a variety of tools and approaches (e.g. contact points, social media, field days) in order to engage with the various stakes involved.

In the DESIRE project (2007-2012), a methodology was developed by the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) of the University of Bern. Based on the experiences gained in DESIRE and in view of the specific needs of RECARE, the existing materials are currently being adapted by the WP5 team and will form the basis for the upcoming stakeholder interaction training.

A second training will be held in March/April 2015 – maybe in combination with the next Plenary Meeting – will focus more on decision support, i.e. on how to select potential SLM solutions in a participatory way. For a timeline of major stakeholder activities in the RECARE project please see the Annex below.
